'Harapan meet on Jan 7 to discuss polls in 6 states, possible BN tie-up'

The Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting, due on Jan 7, will discuss preparations for the elections in six states including cooperation with BN, said the coalition secretary Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

According to him, Harapan’s first meeting of the year would be held at the PKR headquarters, at 4pm.

"I just want to mention that on Jan 7, the Harapan presidential council will hold its first meeting of the year. I believe the issue of cooperation with BN in the upcoming state elections will be discussed.

"Other matters that will be discussed are the GE15 post-mortem, and other matters related to the Harapan coalition," he told reporters at the Malaysian Prison Department Headquarters in Kajang today.

Saifuddin Nasution said this when asked about DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng's statement that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will chair a Harapan meeting at the central level before the Chinese New Year to discuss preparations for the polls.

The six states that are due to go to the polls this year are Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.

After GE15, Harapan chief Anwar was appointed as prime minister after forming a unity government with BN, GPS, and GRS.

Meanwhile, the Perikatan Nasional coalition opted out of the unity government and is expected to be a challenger to the Harapan-BN coalition in the state elections.

Harapan heads the Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang state administrations while Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan are led by PAS.
